Sometimes you just need a little inspiration. And sometimes that inspiration happens by accident. Today I went to the hotel rumored to have inspired Stephen King's novel The Shining which in turn inspired Stanley Kubrick's film by the same name.

Enter The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado.

The story goes that King was looking for a change of location to write his next novel so he opened up an atlas and the next thing he knew he was living with his wife Tabitha in Boulder, Colorado. At the end of tourist season the King's found themselves the only guests of the hotel. They were served dinner in the dining room. Alone. Creepy? A little. Kick ass inspiration/setting for a psychological horror story? Absolutely.

Although the film wasn't actually shot here on location I could see The Shining all over this place.
